Hiking and Fungus Hunting in the Swiss Jura
This one-day event combines a guided hike through the subalpine mountain range of the Swiss Jura with foraging for fungi. The name ‘Jura’ is an old celtic term that means ‘mountains of the forest’. Our six hour hike-foray will take us into the mixed conifer and decidious forests of the gentle rolling hills of the Jura. We will periodically stop to search for fungi in different habitat types and explore their ecological and cultural significances. The region is well-known for its range of fungi including lichens. Participants will learn how and where to search for fungi and the basics of fungus identification.
The hike will be guided by Valérie Chételat while fungus expert, Alison Pouliot, will guide the fungus foraying and identification.
Hiking time 3h. Maximal ascent and descent 300m.
Maximal number of participants: 8.
Booking accepted until 12 October 2017.
