Tarkine Fungus Discovery Retreat – An Immersive Foray
This Fungus Discovery Retreat will take you deep into the spectacular cool-temperate rainforests of Tasmania’s Tarkine. With its ancient trees and exquisite ecosystems this Gondwanan remnant is an A1 fungal hotspot.
During the retreat you’ll discover the astonishing diversity of the Kingdom Fungi, learn how to identify and classify fungi, and delve into their curious cultural histories. You’ll get to know fungi through their science, the senses, and the tracks and traces that reveal their workings in the subterrain.
While we’ll focus in closely on fungi, we’ll also consider them within larger ecological contexts of how they underpin functioning forests and how we can contribute to their flourishing.
The retreat combines interactive sessions around a Fungal Wunderkammer, thrilling forays through the Tarkine’s tranquil wonderlands, active conversation and a sensory surge, as well as a session on portraying the science and aesthetics of these compelling organisms through images and words.
Alison Pouliot is an ecologist, environmental photographer and author of five books on fungi who has been working among fungi for three decades.
