Discovering the Fungal Curiosities of Bald Hill Reserve

This workshop introduces participants to the diversity, ecology and curiosities of the Kingdom Fungi, specific to fungi found in the Kyneton/Macedon Ranges region but also within a wider Australian context.

It includes an interactive and illustrated seminar on the major fungus groups, fungal ecology and the significance of fungus-plant-animal interactions in local ecosystems. Fungal specimens from the local area will be displayed and examined during the workshop. The importance of fungal conservation will also be discussed in the context of local ecosystems and environmental issues.

Following the indoor session we will partake in an exciting foray through the various local habitat types of Bald Hill Reserve to search for species of interest, during which participants will learn to recognise the various diagnostic characteristics used to identify fungi in the field. Supplementary notes provided.
