FORAY & HIKE – Gorge-ous Fungi

GORGE-OUS FUNGI – Foray & Hike at Dovecote Gorge

This event combines an exciting hike along the Schüss River (La Suze) through the wild and dramatic Dovecote Gorge (Taubenlochschlucht) with a foray for fungi in the first fold of the Jura Mountains.

The tour is led by hiking guide, Valérie Chételat and biologist and mushroom specialist, Alison Pouliot.

Our day begins with an informative wander through the gorge, among the rockfaces and overhangs, waterfalls and whirlpools. After an hour we depart the gorge and head into the mixed deciduous and conifer forests to search for fungi.

Alison will share insights from over two decades of roaming the forests across hemispheres.

How do fungi provide the connective network of terrestrial ecosystems?

Can they teach us more innovative ways of thinking about the living world?

And how do we differentiate the desirable from the deadly?

We’ll explore these themes and many more as we search for a great diversity of fungi.

Along the way we’ll stop and build a fire and share a mushroom-inspired lunch.

Our day together concludes at 3pm.
