TALK & DISCUSSION – Fungi, Aesthetics & Land Restoration

FUNGI, AESTHETICS & LAND RESTORATION

This Tuesday, Visiting Volkswagen Foundation Professor Dr Alison Pouliot will introduce her research with fungi in the context of land restoration. Alison will discuss her work in the field with conservation groups, land managers and rangers, First Nations people and farmers, scientists and academics to understand fungi through multiple lenses. In particular Alison raises the question of how we might navigate the tensions between ecology and aesthetics in conservation and land restoration. Originally trained as a limnologist, Alison also works as a professional environmental and scientific photographer. Her PhD titled, A Thousand Days in the Forest, was an ethnography of the culture of fungi.
